The following is the latest status on submarine fiber optic cable outages throughout the world.

E-Marine has announced a maintenance and storage agreement with the East African Submarine System (EASSy), a fiber-optic cable that will greatly improve access to high-performance Internet, business and mobile-phone data services in twenty-one African nations.

Subsea service specialist Offshore Marine Management (OMM) has secured the former AEI Cables site in Kent from its landowners, South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), for the establishment of a new cable storage, cable plant and key component spares that will act as an industry operational base.

A fault on a submarine fiber optic cable in Hawaii caused loss of Internet, phone and cable television services on some islands for up to 12 hours.  Although service has been restored using other cables, it could be five weeks until the cable is repaired and the cause of the fault is determined.

SEACOM has announced that all repairs to its East African submarine fiber optic cable have been successfully completed.

A guard vessel is now in operation on the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm to ensure the safety of marine traffic around the foundation installation sites and along the export cable corridor.

During the course of last week, SEACOM, owner of the East Africa submarine cable system that suffered a failure on July 3 reportedly due to a faulty repeater, has continued to work closely with its partners to roll-out the repair work program and restoration alternatives necessary to maintain adequate connectivity during this process.

As the SEACOM fault enters its second week, the impact on Internet services in East Africa is becoming to become apparent.  Various reports coming out of countries impacted by the outage indicate that those carriers and Internet service providers (ISP) that had invested in backup capacity have come through the outage fairly well.
