OMM Secures Former Cable Factory as Storage Facility

Subsea service specialist Offshore Marine Management (OMM) has secured the former AEI Cables site in Kent from its landowners, South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), for the establishment of a new cable storage, cable plant and key component spares that will act as an industry operational base.

Hawaiian Cable Suffers Fault

A fault on a submarine fiber optic cable in Hawaii caused loss of Internet, phone and cable television services on some islands for up to 12 hours.  Although service has been restored using other cables, it could be five weeks until the cable is repaired and the cause of the fault is determined.

Impact of SEACOM Fault Being Felt in East Africa

As the SEACOM fault enters its second week, the impact on Internet services in East Africa is becoming to become apparent.  Various reports coming out of countries impacted by the outage indicate that those carriers and Internet service providers (ISP) that had invested in backup capacity have come through the outage fairly well.
