Point Topic has published its third quarter 2017 broadband subscriber figures.  In Q3 2017, the number of global fixed broadband subscribers grew by 2.38% quarter-on-quarter. The total number of fixed broadband subscribers stood at 913.3 million.

The main trends in Q3 2017:

  • The highest growth q-o-q was recorded in Africa, Asia, and Oceania, as these regions with high growth potential continue to embrace new broadband technologies.
  • Nearly three quarters of all net adds in fixed broadband subscribers came from East Asia. It was mainly driven by continued growth in China which added 15 million broadband subscribers this quarter.
  • The number of copper lines fell by 6.3 percent globally, while FTTH connections increased by 30.4 percent between Q3 2016 and Q3 2017.
  • In 12 months to the end of Q3 2017, China added 68.7 million FTTH connections. This figure constituted 85% of global total FTTH net adds in that period.
