Ningbo Orient, a leading Chinese supplier of submarine power cables, has announced that its first cable laying vessel has arrived at its pier after two years of construction.  The vessel, named MW603-1, is equipped with a DP-2 system and can carry up to 3500 metric tons of submarine cable for cable laying, O&M, and transportation.

Ningbo Orient supplies submarine power cables to the domestic Chinese market, as well as exporting some for projects in Canada, Indonesia and elsewhere.  Within China, the company has supplied cables for interconnection and offshore O&G applications.

It also has supplied cables for at least one offshore wind project in China – the Fujian Putian wind farm.  Ningbo Orient received an award to supply of 43.80 kilometers of 1x1600 mm2, 220KV XLPE composite cable for the project in 2015.

As the Chinese offshore wind market grows, several domestic cable suppliers have been involved in providing submarine cables.  In 2017, Hengtong Cable was awarded a contract for the Longyuan Dafeng offshore wind farm, while ZTT won the Rudong #3 project, following up its work on the previous Rudong wind farms.
